So tell us about the Women’s Choice Award and how you got into that and made that leap from publishing into this.

Well you hear stories about how businesses are created out of need. Well I was a publisher, as you mentioned, of large women’s magazines. I had a corner office on Avenue of the Americas and really passionate about helping women. While I was around 40 or when I turned around 40, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. It came out of nowhere. Big surprise as you can imagine. And I had a horrific experience. I had the best possible people helping me with my treatment, but where I did my diagnostic work was in Westchester County, just a suburb. And I ended up, because of poor machinery, I ended up with two lumpectomies and a mastectomy. I’m sharing this story because I left publishing because I said no woman should ever have to deal with what I dealt with. And the reason I dealt with that is because of lack of transparency and lack of resources for women when it comes to where to go for the best health care. So I made it my next chapter, my next mission, and very passionate about helping women. So I founded the Women’s Choice Award for America’s Best Hospitals and Breast Centers. And we’re launching out best mammogram centers around the country, 1600. So now you don’t have to question who has the most up to date machinery and capabilities to make sure that you’re getting the right diagnosis.

What you’re doing is make a huge difference in the lives of women. So thank you for that.

Correct, but we’ve expanded. So after about four years of doing health care, we realized that, well, why can’t we empower her just about every important decision. So where do you choose the best college? What company do you work for? Where do you go when you want to buy your home? Which real estate company really gets me and really will protect me through that process? I mean, we’ve vetted out all industries. What cars? The safest cars to buy. We said why can’t we just help her with every important decision in her life. And you’ll find some not so important decisions like what body cream to use and what hair color to use all based on the recommendation of women across America.

And I know EWG often does a wonderful analysis of the safest beauty products to use and cosmetics that are free and things like that. Do you partner with them at all?

No. But thank you for sharing. We love partnerships. I believe, and this is something in advice for women, I have succeeded. We’ve been on the INC list as one of the fastest growing companies three years in a row. And what I have found throughout my career is to forge partnerships. I call them foundational partners, supporting partners. Companies that just help you get there faster. It’s not just the people, it’s the organizations that can catapult your success.
