So tell us about you and about what you do and how you got started.

So currently, I am a media planner and buyer and president of my own agency. I started in the business over 25 years ago in television sales. Started in the newsroom, then went up to sales, and then did marketing and research. And then once 10 or 15 years rolled by and I had three kids, I decided it was time to branch out on my own and started my own agency. So since that time, I’ve been working with all kinds of clients large and small. I’m planning their media, putting the creative together, working on digital, outdoor, social media. And it just really keeps growing.

So I know that with everything that’s changed through the years, and I’m sure you’ve seen this and I have an advertising background myself, what are you seeing as trends?

So right now everybody’s interested in what digital media can do. And I think it’s just something that you really have to learn about and stay up with the trends, continually immerse yourself in knowledge with blogs and with training seminars. Especially like I do as I’ve worked out of a home office so I’m not always around an office setting every day. So in order to get to seminars and virtual seminars to make sure that I’m constantly trained on all those new technologies.

Now you’ve had some interesting life experiences and you had advice for women about not allowing yourself to be intimidated. Can you share more about that?

Yeah I think as a strong woman, when you go through (I don’t know if you want to say the ranks) but when you go through life in general then the better you become and the stronger you become, sometimes it’s intimidating to those around you. So just to always assert yourself in a positive manner, to make sure you’re inclusive of the group that you’re with, and to make sure that you’re always projecting the right atmosphere onto your staff or to your co-workers.

So tell us about some of the experiences you’ve overcome in your life because I know you’ve learned a lot along the way.

The biggest one experience that I’ve had to overcome was when I was working mostly strictly for an automotive dealer in 2008. And when the crash of 2008 happened, I sort of had to rethink my whole agency. Knowing that that was the line that came in. So from there I went into home improvement category which was definitely needed at that time, and now I’ve had that client for 15 years. And it’s worked out really well. And I surrounded myself with other clients as well. But knowing not to put all of your eggs in one basket. I think that where I was kind of leaning towards. But it’s worked out well, and you learn from everything. So it’s been a good blessing.
