Hi I’m Wes Benwick thanks for watching BluHorn TV. This episode is about making a difference with author of the number one best selling book Jean Ginzburg, Win New Customers. Thank you for joining us today Jean. I’d like to hear more.

 

Jean Ginzburg

Yeah. Thank you very much for having me on the show it’s an honor to be here. I’m very excited to chat a little bit about my book and of course to chat more about making the difference. But in terms of the book so I wrote the book about a year and a half ago now and it is a book about digital marketing. It’s called Win New Customers: How to Attract, Connect and Convert More Prospects Into Customers in 60 Days Using Digital Marketing Strategies. It is a compilation of everything that I’ve done for my clients and I wanted to share my knowledge and my experience and the successes and the results that we’ve had with my private clients and put it in a book because I think there is just so much value in learning and understanding digital marketing you know if you’re an entrepreneur, if you have a business.

How would you define digital marketing?

 

Jean Ginzburg

Sure. So that the way I would define digital marketing as anything that is online marketing so anything that is not off line. So anything that’s not billboards, newspapers, that’s not magazines anything that is either on your desktop or on your mobile device. And that includes of course social media because your other social media obviously it’s through your mobile device typically or through your desktop like Facebook and Instagram. So those are I would say the way I define it is under the umbrella social media under the umbrella of digital marketing.

 

Wes Benwick

Everyone thinks it’s so easy to place an ad I know that there’s some good and bad habits out there let’s talk about the bad first what are some of the the bad habits or the common mistakes that you see people making when it comes to their digital advertising strategy.

 

Jean Ginzburg

Absolutely. This is the one the biggest mistake that I see happening all the time is I engage with the client and they’re like yes we’re really excited let’s do digital marketing let’s put some ads out there and the one key piece that they’re missing and it’s not related to digital marketing but it’s related to understanding their ideal target market is often so often missing. I think I would say 90 percent of the time when I am engaging with the client they are not clear on their ideal target market and that is just a big problem because no matter what you’re doing digital marketing line online it doesn’t matter. You still have to get the right message in front of the right audience and it is just so critical when it comes to digital marketing because if you are if you don’t know who your audience is and you’re trying to market to everyone then you’re just spending a lot of money on big budgets on getting your message in front of the wrong people. So that is I would say the biggest the biggest mistake that I see.

 

Wes Benwick

Thats great advice and let’s break that down because I think target market can mean a lot to different people. are we talking the the region of the country or are we talking buyer behaviors, are we talking age and gender. How do you start to refine a target market?

 

Jean Ginzburg

That’s a good question. So it includes all of it. Everything you said you know geo location age and gender behavior all of that is included in the ideal target market because we need to understand all of that it has to be a 360 degree view in order to be successful with marketing whether it’s digital whether it’s online. It doesn’t matter. You still have to really hone in on that. We have the demographics things like age gender geo location household income. And then we break it down even more. Once we narrowed down from that then we think OK whatever the goals what are the challenges. What are the pain points that our audience have. And then we also look at where are they hanging out. So are they you know since we’re all talking about digital here are they hanging out on Instagram. Are they hanging out on Facebook. Are they on YouTube. So we also think about where can we find them. And then and then we started doing some marketing once we kind of narrow this down. And in terms of size I would say you know we can you can start testing out small I would be my recommendation with anything when it comes to digital marketing. We start small. We test out an audience a small audience and then we can always expand bigger and bigger. After we’ve tested that out.

 

Wes Benwick

So this is one of the common misconceptions I see. People have to have a lot of money to do advertising marketing general digital kind of change that you know for someone who’s just now starting off how much money would you allocate or budget to putting out a couple ideas.

 

Jean Ginzburg

That’s a good question. I get that question asked a lot. You know how much money do I spend on digital marketing if you’re just getting started. So I would say that it obviously depends on your budget and we don’t want you spending funds you know if you’re a business and you’re just getting started we don’t want you to spend things that you know you don’t have. So but I would say if you’re just getting started you can start as little as 10 dollars a day on places like Facebook advertising where you can get some results get some tests you know get an idea of what your audiences are resonating with your message and with your ads. And then again if you’re seeing good successes and expand and expand and make it and make the budget bigger but you can start off as it’s a little less ten dollars a day.

Really good advice. Now we talked about some of the bad habits and we’re kind of the good ones so let’s focus on that for a minute. What are some other successful tips that you have for people who want to get into more digital marketing.

 

Jean Ginzburg

So the biggest successes I see through my clients are just in general when I’m looking at the marketplace is that entrepreneurs or businesses that are creating relevant content for their audience. Content now has become such a big part of the marketing process. The sales process and without content vary it just becomes a lot more difficult to get your message across to get your audiences to learn more about you your brand your mission your vision your product. So the companies that I that I’m seeing really good results with or clients and I’m seeing good results with have we have honed in on their content marketing. And we are producing that for them and we’re putting that out on social media on their Web site and our blog on a daily basis. And that’s where I’m seeing the most success these days.
