How did Houchens Consulting get started?

Houchens Consulting is an Internet marketing consulting agency. We focus on local and national brands. Being born and raised here in Gainesville, I can see there’s a lot of small businesses that don’t know the options that are available to make their business visible on things like Google with Google Ads or My Business. We focus a lot with the smaller businesses without the multimillion dollar budgets just to make sure that their services show up when their customers are searching for them in Google.

Are you more B2B or B2C focused?

It really just depends on the client. Some clients are B2B, some clients are B2C. There’s no focus. I focus B2B, but my clients are a wide range of customer base.

Who is your ideal customer?

An ideal customer would be a business who understands the importance of being online and having that digital presence. They know that there are customers out there that are searching for services but don’t necessarily understand or know that that brand exists for them. On top of that they understand the importance of having an optimized platform such as Google My Business or their Web site.

What advice do you have for college graduates entering into the whole world of marketing or media and jobs aren’t available?

When I was starting a lot of it was my own projects. It’s important to find a project you’re passionate about and really work on that project not necessarily for monetary gain but just for experience. A lot of people say work for free and I am a big proponent of that. However, I think working for free on your own project helps you gain the experience along the way while allowing you to get involved in the things that you think you want to do.
