Welcome to “The Horse’s Mouth” with Tom McManus, a unique talk show where guests belly up to the bar to discuss business, marketing, and life. No gossip, no hearsay, no BS, just the straight-up truth, right from the source.

Tom’s longtime love of bartending has come full circle since his days as a linebacker on the inaugural Jacksonville Jaguars football team—slinging drinks and talking shop with everyone from high-profile sports figures and entertainers to business leaders, journalists, and community leaders. Tom and guests trade insight and anecdotes, explore day-to-day topics and tackle the hard subjects, all with equal measures of energy, honesty, and laughter. Get the skinny on the real people behind the headlines, straight from the horse’s mouth.

This week, Tom spoke with Brian Hart and Liliana Chaves from Compass Management & Consulting, Mike White and David Sillick from BluHorn, and Ambre Goff from Level Up Learning Center.

What is marketing?

David Sillick

It’s driving qualified leads to a sales team or business owner to follow up on and then convert into an actual business.

Brian Hart

When I think of marketing, I think of ways to drive value to my clients. My clients are non-profit medical associations mostly in Florida and some nationally. What we try to do is we try to drive education so educate our members on best practices in medicine and what products and services we can bring them to improve their best practices which in turn helps my company grow.

Lilliana Chaves

We have to concentrate on that return investment and how everything we invest will come out as exponential gains for our client.

Amber Goff

I don’t know about marketing, I’m not an expert but I would say that we want to fill up our camps and in order to fill up our camps we have to reach parents and we have to prove that we’ve got value. We have to prove that their kids are going to have a good time!

What do you think about mobile marketing?

David Sillick

I would start to characterize mobile marketing in the mainstream. Telling your company’s story, gaining value, reaching your audience, that’s what mobile marketing is going to be doing.

Mike White

Look at how people are engaging on mobile, people are on their phone constantly. You can do everything on your phone now, get directions, get tickets, etc.. Everything is being driven to mobile which you can then easily track the success of it. You’ve got to make sure your business is mobile friendly.
